Animal Imagination: What if the Pond Went Dry?

June 12, 13, 14, 9AM - noon

After hiking and observing animals in the pond habitat at the nature center, students will return to the classroom for writing activities. Stories and poems will be centered on animal habitats. Writing prompts will include: Imagine that something is missing from an animal’s habitat: What if the pond went dry? Or, what if all the frogs left the pond? Students will also create a poem and collage about an animal that lives at the nature center and its habitat. There will be time at the end of each class for students to share their writing with the group.

________________________________________________________________ Poetry in Nature

June 26, 28, 30 (MWF) 9AM- noon

Students will use the grounds of Fern Hollow as inspiration for sensory poetry. After a hike, classroom time with pelts, sitting quietly outside, and using our imagination, students will compose poems that begin with: What did I see? What did I hear? What did I touch? What did I taste? What did I feel? Also, students will create illustrations and coloring pages for their poems. Students will create a I Am From poem for an animal that they observe at the Nature Center. There will be time at the end of each class for students to share their writing with the group.
