Development Assistant

Fern Hollow Nature Center is seeking a Development Assistant to start in May 2024. This position will report directly to the Executive Director and handle all administrative aspects of receiving and processing donations for the Center’s
general operating and Capital Campaign budget.

Hours: Part-time, 10-15 hours per week. Hours vary, depending on workload. Occasional nights and weekends as needed. This position can be worked partially remotely. At least five hours per week are required in person.

Salary: $15-17.50 per hour, depending on experience

Job Responsibilities:

1) Donor Communication
a) Assist the Executive Director and Capital Campaign Steering Committee with  communication with donors and prospects through various channels, including phone calls, emails, and written correspondence, to cultivate relationships and steward their support.
b) Coordinate production and mailing of Day of Giving and year-end appeal letters.
c) Provide donation history reports upon request.
d) Perform special projects as assigned by the ED or Capital Campaign Steering Committee.

2) Database Management
a) Maintain foundation, corporation, and individual donor files, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of
contributions, pledges, interactions, and preferences.
b) Enter donations and pledges in the database and prepare acknowledgment letters.
c) Prepare membership reports for monthly board meetings.
d) Prepare capital campaign reports for the Capital Campaign Steering Committee.
e) Perform special projects as assigned by the ED or Capital Campaign Steering Committee.

3) Event Coordination
a) Support the planning and execution of fundraising events, including annual fundraisers, donor cultivation events, campaign kick-off events, and other special events.
b) Assist in distributing campaign materials and promotional items to donors, volunteers, and stakeholders.
c) Perform special projects as assigned by the ED or Capital Campaign Steering Committee.

Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
● Previous experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or related fields preferred
● Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and tactfully with donors and stakeholders
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management software
● Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision
