We are pleased to offer a variety of nature-themed Summer Camps for children ages 3 to 14:

• Half Day Camps (Morning or afternoon sessions) 
• Full Day Camps (9am to 4:00pm)
• Clubs and playdates (will meet weekly)

Spaces will be limited.  A registration form is required for each participating child.
Permission Forms and waivers will be shared closer to the start of camps.

Campers will attend their own Poke camp where they will learn about real-life pocket monsters in Pennsylvania. Trainers will learn about native Pennsylvanian mammals, fish, and insects. We will look at the similarities and differences between the anime animals and the real thing.  The three-hour camp will have related crafts, games, and a mini-lesson about our animal of the day. There will also be time each day to trade Pokemon cards.

Join us at Fern Hollow to learn about the Great Outdoors! Each day children will participate in a hike, an outdoor-themed lesson, and create a nature craft.

Some activities will include hiking to the Fern Hollow pond, making your own trail mix, and learning all about animals in our backyard. We will be planning on spending time outdoors, so participants should come dressed appropriately.

Mythology in Nature

M-Th. at Fern Hollow Nature Center and Friday at King’s Lake

Campers will spend a week learning about Greek, Nordic, Egyptian, and several other types of mythology that are geared toward nature. We’ll discuss the Mighty Thor and learn about the weather. Another day we’ll talk about Artemis and train to become skilled archers. Glaucas was the Greek god of fishermen, so we will test our fishing skills out at King’s Lake.

The Mythology in Nature camp will be intriguing and adventurous!

This session will be held at Fern Hollow Nature Center Monday to Thursday, and Friday at Fern Hollow.

Watershed Warriors

Come explore the living world inside our creeks! At this camp, we will discover what kinds of plants and animals live inside the creeks of Western Pennsylvania. Come learn how the Allegheny river flows into the ocean and the different ecosystems that are created through salt and freshwater. Use kick-nets and dichotomous keys to discover the animals that live in the underwater world in our backyard creeks! We will explore watersheds by creating videos, exploring the creek hands-on, and building boats that will take our knowledge all the way to the Atlantic ocean!  

This session will be held at Walker Park on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and at Fern Hollow on Tuesday and Thursday.

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

Learn how to use the three R’s in your everyday life! At this camp, we will be discovering the best ways to cut down on our waste and turn something old into something new!

To reduce, we will be making a no-waste meal where we will talk about composting, water use, and more! On our reuse day, we will be making our own paper from old newspaper scraps! At the end of the week, we will be using recycled materials to put on our very own fashion show! By recycling items such as paper bags, egg cartons, and more we will be creating fashion looks and walking the eco-friendly runway!

If fashion isn’t your style, come show us what you can build with recycled materials!

Come learn all about fish in Western Pennsylvania! At this weeklong camp, we will talk about the different types of fish that live in Western PA, how to identify them, and how to catch them recreationally. Come learn the rules, test your knowledge, and get some time fishing this week at Fern Hollow.  Campers will meet at King’s Lake on Friday to fish. We are scouting a second fishing location for Thursday as well.

Think you could survive in the wild? Do you know what to do if you’re lost in the woods and running out of water?  Join us for a summer-long outdoor adventure club to learn basic wilderness survival skills and discover the outdoors in a whole new way. Learn which plants are edible and which to stay away from, how to catch fish using only the tools in your backpack, and how to start a fire after a storm. Compete with other campers and work together to survive in the wild.

Nature Playdates
Come play with us! 

Weekly FREE playdates will take place in our Natural Outdoor Classroom every Wednesday from 11:00AM to 1:00PM.
All ages are welcome to attend however, these are best suited for our preschool and early elementary friends.
There wil be no fee and no registration will be required.  Donations are always appreciated.
